Restaurant Tripolis Montreal

This little gem of a restaurant is located in the residential area of Parc Extension. Open until 2 am on weekdays and up until 5 am on weekends, Restaurant Tripolis Montreal seems to have a pretty good set up to satiate those late night cravings. Small-ish, well lit and unmistakably Greek, the place is cozy in a big way: traditional Greek music plays from the speakers, the smell of grilled fish and lemons permeate the air and the diners are all pretty much hardcore Greek and/or local regulars. Funnily enough, one Twitter follower commented on our check-in, telling us that her grandfather used to hang out at Tripolis on the regular as it used to be this Greek dive bar. Legit. Our server Galina strongly recommended a couple of popular dishes – pretty much open to anything, we took her pointers to heart.

Tripolis Montreal Grilled Octopus

Grilled Octopus

Starting off with a bottle of Greek white wine, we dug into a plate of grilled octopus. Drizzled wIth a good dose of lemon juice, each mouthful packed a nice punch – the sharp onions and capers hiding underneath the pile of chopped octopus were to thank for that. The octopus had a nice texture and lightly charred sort of flavour that we all found to be enjoyable.

Next, the village salad was comprised of onions, chunky tomatoes, cucumbers and a generous sprinkling of crumbled feta cheese. Juicy.

Tripolis Montreal Fried Zucchini and Eggplant

A mix of thinly sliced zucchinis and eggplants deep fried in batter and served with a thick dipping sauce was a crowd pleaser.

Getting into the meat of the meal (literally), we started in on the chicken Tripolis, the lamb chops and sliced pork. Everything was seasoned nicely with a touch of olive oil, pepper and lemon juice. Between the three of us, there was more than enough food and even some left over. We used our fingers, not going to lie. Licked them clean too.

Baklava

At this point, we wondered whether or not there was any room left for dessert. Galina explained what they had to offer and we couldn’t resist sharing a couple plates. The baklava was nice but nothing special. Nice big piece though.

The Greek yogurt was as thick and fluffy as a pillow – no joke. Every spoonful almost tasted like a heavy whipping cream, in the most divine and delicious (and fattening) way, if you’re into that. Paired with this super smooth, ultra sticky honey, we agreed that this was a totally different level and category of yogurt – I mean we’ve all had it before but nothing like this… this is probably as rich as Greek yogurt is ever going to get. After a couple bites each, we left it on the table – not because it wasn’t good but because we were all at the point of bursting.

Finishing off our late night meal with a cup of coffee, tea and a shot of Metaxa 5 star, we left Tripolis Montreal a little tipsy, satisfied with our meal.
