Lola Rosa Montreal

Lola Rosa is located in the heart of the McGill ghetto, making it a convenient and relatively affordable eatery for the multitude of students who live around and frequent the university campus. The restaurant is a small, vegetarian, indie-vibing kind of joint with some of the most friendly staff I’ve been in contact with in the city as of late. Here’s a unique feature of the restaurant you won’t likely find anywhere else: most of the vintage style tables in the place have little drawers filled with pieces of scrap paper with wishes, words of encouragements, notes and general comments scrawled on by previous diners. All are welcome to add their own personal messages and rummage through the ones already inside for inspiration or just for fun!
I got the black bean burrito with extra avocado, coming with a side of the house salad and some rice. The extra avocado is key – if you’re an avocado lover, you can’t really say no to this. Paired with the black beans, the burrito brings together classic ingredients typical of a Mexican dish but in a vegan way that tastes just as great. We also got an order of the Tunisian ragout – while the dish is seemingly small on first glance, you’d be surprised as to how much it fills you! Coming in a tagine, the dish is well spiced and is chock full of healthy ingredients like chick peas, tomatoes and almonds. Yum.
We finished off our meal by sharing a piece of the light, fluffy and super fresh pumpkin pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I’m a sucker for pumpkin so I love anything with the ingredient inside. This particular one was warm, as if it had just come out fresh out the oven which I love.
Check it out if you haven’t already!
