Toasta Mixta - Portuguese Grilled Cheese With Eggs, Ham, Brie, Onions, Mustard Served With Mesclun Salad
There is a distinct New York vibe about Le Cartet. With an upscale gourmet foods boutique at the front of the restaurant, diners are encouraged to check out the goodies while waiting in line during the busy weekend brunch rush or upon leaving the restaurant during regular hours. The trendy design of the place features minimalistic art, colorful ransom lettering of select menu items on the front welcome board and long communal tables where diners sit alongside one another, strangers and friends alike. The hustle and bustle of the place doesn’t take away from the quality of service at all, contrary to what you might think – we were served promptly and courteously from the moment we walked in.

Brunch Sante - Ginger Organic Granola With Cashew Nuts, Yogurt and Blueberries, Poached Eggs on Mesclun Salad on Whole Wheat Toasts, Organic Cheddar Sticks With Figs
Starting off the meal with the smoothie of the day made with mango and mixed berries was a great prelude to the tasty meal to come. We had the Toasta Mixta which was a delicious Portuguese style grilled cheese sandwich stuffed with eggs, ham, brie, onions and mustard. Interestingly enough, the hot, normally messy eggs stayed put with relatively little effort. The bread that encased the stuffings didn’t disintegrate or become soft over time either, which was nice. With just enough saltiness and a good amount of cheesiness, this was probably one of the best dishes of the three that we ordered. There was an order of the brunch santé which came with two poached eggs on toast and some organic granola on yogurt – healthy and delicious, that’s for sure. Poached eggs are not something that I can bring myself to make often since they take a good amount of effort and at 7 30 in the morning I am not ashamed to say I have absolutely no patience. You must know how I feel. But they are so worth it when you get them right… delicious too. The last item we ordered was the crepe with fruit sauce and citrus zest. The crepe was soft and spongy and paired with the sweet fruit sauce and the whipped cream – absolute heaven. Yum, yum!
Le Cartet is one of those places “to be seen”, if you’re into that. It’s also a great place to catch up with a friend on a weekend morning in the setting of a trendy hot spot.
