La Cantine Montreal

At the corner of Mont Royal and Hotel de Ville, La Cantine bills itself as a Bistro Boutique. Word of mouth reached us of its weekend brunches so we decided to check it out for ourselves. The seating area is separated into two mid sized rooms, one feeling slightly more formal the other.
We were offered complimentary Mandarin, Peach and Coriander breakfast shooters shortly after making our orders. We ordered two of the featured dishes (Les Musts):
La Totale – Oeufs brouilles, notre jambon effiloche, bacon, caline de bines, creepettes, patates presque pilées, verdure, fruits, baguette, cretons maisons and
La Champignonne – 2 Œufs poches sur un pouding au pain noix et poireaux, sauce cremeuse aux champignons, patates presque pilees, fruits, pancakes, tomate au chevre, baguette grillee
We also ordered a breakfast club sandwich called Club A Matante Bebe – Oeufs brouilles, cheddar, bacon, tomates, mayo, verdure, coupe de fruits, caline de bines, patates.
The food was delicious and dishes well balanced. The bistro’s personality comes through clearly in the inventive presentation and the prices are reasonable. Portions are hearty, but not overwhelming and the service was friendly. Great choice for weekend brunch in the Mont Royal / St Laurent area.
