Kenzo Ramen Toronto

Posted By Jennifer Ho Nov 10 2012 · 0 comments · Dining Out

Kenzo Ramen is one of Toronto’s prime destinations for quick and easy no-nonsense ramen. There are a plethora of other ramen houses close by that compete for your dollars – we noticed Sansotei Ramen as a big competitor with a lineup that spilled out into the cold noontime weather. Located just a few short blocks from the AGO, we stopped by Kenzo for a bite to eat before heading to the museum where Frieda and Diego were showing. Luckily, we were seated fairly quickly. Funnily enough, as soon as we sat down a lineup of just under ten people began to form. The place is totally legit – I think my partner was the only non-Asian person in the restaurant the entire time we were there. That’s always a good sign, right?

The ramen we ordered were both part of the “spicy noodle” category – nothing like a bit of spice to warm you up. We had one order of the King of Kings ramen which came with five toppings including egg, seaweed and fish cake. As I continued to slurp my noodles, I started to get increasingly full (and hot!) while hardly making a dent in my bowl. The portions are surprisingly large – you get a healthy amount and some. This on top of the gyoza and you’re practically set for dinner as well. The ramen was good – I enjoyed it – but I wasn’t crazy about it. In other words, I would go back but it wouldn’t be for this dish in particular.

Similar sort of comment for the netsu ramen.

Gyoza

Gyoza

We ordered the gyoza – several FourSquare users highly recommended it and the plate sitting on our neighbour’s table looked and smelt pretty delicious. This actually came to us after we had both received our ramen bowls as it took slightly longer to prepare and cook. They were plump and fat, oozing hot, flavorful juice as soon as you bit into them. Filled with ground meat, our five gyoza came with the typical black vinegar dipping sauce. The praise and the excitement translated very well from the social media app to real life. I’ve gotta agree with the FourSquare users. Get this dish!

Overall, Kenzo is a solid place to get your fix of Japanese ramen noodles and gyoza. Service is quick and timely, prices are completely reasonable and… the AGO is right down the street!
